My wife took this panorama on our last night. (And on a side note: yes, ALL of her pictures are better than mine.)

  1. You’ve definitely morphed into a cranky, whiney German…Hawaii is what it is….a big farm and ranch on volcanic soil…scratching out a living and generally failing at every ag enterprise except pineapples, cattle and poi. You don’t see much of the real Hawaii at a Hilton resort…we like driving into the remote knooks and crannies and exploring. Did you see the amazing tall trees on the southeast corner of the Big Island? What about that lava flow cutting off the coast road? Did you take the hike along the trail of the 1953 Kilauea eruption that filled an old crater up with lava? Talk about a hot hike! Or the lava tube caves down from Kilauea? I could spend years on each of those islands…and spend very little. Did you eat breakfast with the locals in downtown Hilo? Those pineapple macadamia nut syrup on the pancakes is to die for. And all for about $10 for 2 people. Stuff is expensive at a Hilton because its all transported on ships from the US mainland…except local food…like eggs, pork, beef, chicken, pineapples, poi and some tropical fruit.
Did you take the hops on Hawaiian Airlines to the other islands, like Kauai? Didn’t think of that eh?
