Holy smokes, that’s Hannover in 1945 after WWII. You can see nearly every single building took some kind of damage. Hard to believe carpet bombing was ever considered modern warfare, isn’t it? “Wait, what is our tactic again, Sir? Oh, right; bomb merry hell out of everything until enemy gives up.”
Oh God, My Wife Is German. 
Bombing cities like Hannover was a poor strategy because it didn’t produce the predicted results, namely a demoralized civilian force. The better idea (for the English Air Force) would have been to focus more on the factories and oil refineries. If you have some time, you should look into this. I wonder what was on the sign which described this model.
