Pictures: Our Visit to Einbeck, Germany, in the Summer of 2011
As you are probably aware, The Wife and I visited Germany last summer. One of the places we stayed was Einbeck; A sleepy little borough right smack in the middle of the country. Einbeck is famous for its 600-year old Einbecker Brewery, home of Einbecker Bier — the origin for the term “Bock” beer. Einbecker Brewery is believed to be one of the oldest breweries in Germany; a fact that is not only awesome, but reason enough to go to Einbeck and never, ever leave. Unfortunately, my wife spent a great deal of her life in Einbeck, so she is immune to its siren’s call. Thus, we did not see this magical brewery, but we did take in some acceptably charming sights around town.

This was our train stop in Göttingen, where we saw the University of Göttingen and more bicycles than I have ever seen in my entire life. Seriously, it was like a sea of bikes, all packed together. Just the sight of it almost gave me a seizure.
Look at the German flag! That was the first German flag I saw when I arrived in the country. I was very excited about it, but none of the Germans on our train cared about it at all because they see it every day. And because they’re a bunch of passionless robots with BMW parts where their hearts should be.
This is the town center in Einbeck. My wife tells me every German town has a Rathaus (town hall) right in the middle. She also informed me each town center has a Wasserfontäne (water fountain), which I informed her actually translates to “piss pillar.”

Check out this leaning building! That’s hardly up to code, German people. Let’s spend a little less time wrapping ourselves around trees alongside the Autobahn and a little more time measuring 90° degree angles.
Here’s a similar shot of Einbeck’s town center. You can also call it “downtown,” if you want to make the Einbeckers feel like they actually belong with the rest of us in the 21st century.
I don’t know if this is a town hall or what, but it looks like the perfect place to buy warm blueberry muffins. Something about this building makes me feel like it is a factory producing nothing but pure, distilled happiness… and operated entirely by Smurfs.
