As you are probably aware, The Wife and I visited Germany last summer. One of the places we stayed was Einbeck; A sleepy little borough right smack in the middle of the country. Einbeck is famous for its 600-year old Einbecker Brewery, home of Einbecker Bier — the origin for the term “Bock” beer. Einbecker Brewery is believed to be one of the oldest breweries in Germany; a fact that is not only awesome, but reason enough to go to Einbeck and never, ever leave. Unfortunately, my wife spent a great deal of her life in Einbeck, so she is immune to its siren’s call. Thus, we did not see this magical brewery, but we did take in some acceptably charming sights around town.
Here are the pictures. Click one to open the gallery. We hope you enjoy them!
- This was our train stop in Göttingen, where we saw the University of Göttingen and more bicycles than I have ever seen in my entire life. Seriously, it was like a sea of bikes, all packed together. Just the sight of it almost gave me a seizure.
- Look at the German flag! That was the first German flag I saw when I arrived in the country. I was very excited about it, but none of the Germans on our train cared about it at all because they see it every day. And because they’re a bunch of passionless robots with BMW parts where their hearts should be.
- This is the town center in Einbeck. My wife tells me every German town has a Rathaus (town hall) right in the middle. She also informed me each town center has a Wasserfontäne (water fountain), which I informed her actually translates to “piss pillar.”
- Here’s a handsome wooden gentleman holding up some super old building. “Psssst, your balls are showing…”
- Check out this leaning building! That’s hardly up to code, German people. Let’s spend a little less time wrapping ourselves around trees alongside the Autobahn and a little more time measuring 90° degree angles.
- Here’s a similar shot of Einbeck’s town center. You can also call it “downtown,” if you want to make the Einbeckers feel like they actually belong with the rest of us in the 21st century.
- I don’t know if this is a town hall or what, but it looks like the perfect place to buy warm blueberry muffins. Something about this building makes me feel like it is a factory producing nothing but pure, distilled happiness… and operated entirely by Smurfs.

Nice, added to list.
Thank you! We’re glad you liked it!
One of my best friends is from Einbeck, so when I read the title of the post, I had to smile. I have been there too: Very sleepy, but cute town, and I didn’t like the Bockbier… :)
That’s awesome! You can send us an email and see if my wife knows your friend! Or not. I guess that sounded a little creepy.
Anyway, thank you for stopping by! Please visit our blog again soon!
Well, her name is Nele. And her sisters name Lynn. So I guess if your wife knows them, that’ll do :)
Asking my wife if she knows these Germans right now…
She knows them both! Especially Nele. That’s awesome! And true testament to the scale of Einbeck. :)
How do you know Nele?
Oh, I only now saw your comment… Nele and I worked as teachers at the same school in a city close to Aachen. But she moved back to Marburg, where she studied to work there…
Nice!
I’ll pass that along to my wife, though she is quite sure she knows your friend and her sister. What a small world! And by that, I mean jeez Einbeck is small!
Oh my God, love love your comments! You’re so funny. I want to go to Germany now. I’d love to see this place, Einbeck. Sorry, you couldn’t see the brewery. Now that you’re living there (are you there yet?) I hope you can go see it! The leaning building is quite something. :)
Thank you for the kind words Bumble! You’re always so encouraging. It’s awesome.
I leave for Germany on Sunday! I am doing my almighty best to finish a post about it.
Oh man, expat life, here I come!
Wow! I can’t wait to read your next post. It should be exciting, all about your new adventure. Best of luck! You’ll be drinking some good beer now, albeit a little warm :)
Haw haw haw! Right? I consider it my righteous task as an American to convert Germany into a cold beer drinking society (or at least my wife and all of her friends).
Good luck with that ;) Will they even serve it cold?!
Heck no, but it only takes one convert to start the revolution! :)
What about you? And plans to visit Germany in the future?
Oh, I’d love to visit Germany. Your pictures and tales are certainly inspiring and motivating. I have German in me, you know. I’m German-Swiss. :)
Nice!
Do you speak any German? (I apologize if we’ve had this conversation before – I’m a bit frazzled at the moment.) :)
No, I don’t speak any German! And, I don’t think we’ve had this conversation. You must have lots on your mind with the big move. I’ll let you get back to it :) Have a great trip.
